Upon ascending the throne in Zamunda, Akeem (Eddie Murphy) learns that he has a previously unknown male heir, prompting a return visit to Queens. 33 years after Coming to America comes a sequel that reunites most of the cast, including the multiple characters that Murphy and Arsenio Hall played in the original. The movie has pretty much everything money can buy, including Ruth Carter’s eye-popping costumes and several amusing musical cameos, but it feels lackluster, with barely a funny joke in sight.
