After an argument, Kerstin (Ingrid Bergman) is shot by her boyfriend (Gunnar Sjöberg); doctors save her and she begins a new life under an assumed name. Bergman’s last Swedish role before her Hollywood career took off is a well directed drama where the star herself is a highlight as the ”injured swan” who has to run away from a ruthless tabloid reporter. The novel’s more controversial aspects have been toned down and to a modern audience the story may seem rather antiquated, but the movie is worth a look thanks to the acting and Per Lindberg’s confident directing.Â
