Independence Day: Resurgence

WE HAD TWENTY YEARS TO PREPARE. SO DID THEY.Ā

Twenty years after the war that put an end to a global alien invasion, there are troubling signs that the aggressive extra-terrestrials are mounting another attack. The director and many of the original actors returned for a belated 3D sequel that basically repeats the same formula, but this time the visual effects donā€™t seem as groundbreaking as they did two decades ago. One of the action scenes is in fact more reminiscent of the directorā€™s 2012 (2009). The veteran cast is a welcome sight, but the newcomers are less interesting.

2016-U.S. 120 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed byĀ Roland Emmerich. Screenplay: Nicolas Wright, James A. Woods, Dean Devlin, Roland Emmerich, James Vanderbilt. Cast: Liam Hemsworth (Jake Morrison), Jeff Goldblum (David Levinson), Bill Pullman (Thomas J. Whitmore), Jessie T. Usher, Maika Monroe, Sela Wardā€¦ William Fichtner, Judd Hirsch, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Robert Loggia.Ā

Trivia: Loggiaā€™s final film. Susan Sarandon was allegedly considered for a role.
