In the 1960s, Kristen (Amber Heard) is brought to a mental hospital after setting fire to a farmhouse; she soon feels the presence of a mean-spirited ghost there. John Carpenter’s first film since Ghosts of Mars (2001) is an uninspired horror flick that looks like so many others set in decrepit insane asylums (only this one is populated entirely by pretty girls). Downright dull, and the Shutter Island twist is just ludicrous. Jared Harris is OK in a part that would be perfect for Donald Pleasance.
