NO ONE BREAKS OUT ALONE.
Professional breakout artist Ray Breslin (Sylvester Stallone) finds himself thrown in a state-of-the art prison whose warden (Caviezel) learned lessons from the best – Ray himself. A throwback to action movies of the 1980s, with a formulaic story and a tongue-in-cheek attitude. If it’s possible to ignore flaws in the script and Mikael Håfström’s clumsy staging at times, there is fun to be had from watching Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger (as a fellow inmate) crack skulls together. The fiery finale is gloriously ridiculous… but that’s entertainment.
2013-U.S. 115 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Mikael Håfström. Cast: Sylvester Stallone (Ray Breslin), Arnold Schwarzenegger (Emil Rottmayer), Jim Caviezel (Hobbes), Faran Tahir, Amy Ryan, Sam Neill… Vincent D’Onofrio, Vinnie Jones, 50 Cent.
Trivia: At an earlier stage, Bruce Willis was allegedly considered in the lead, with Antoine Fuqua directing. Followed by two sequels, starting with Escape Plan 2: Hades (2018).
