The Bible

thebibleReality TV producer Mark Burnett and his wife Roma Downey’s massive project became a History Channel hit, and much loved by religious conservatives. All the rest of us can see is a series of frenetic jumps between the Good Book’s greatest hits, told in bombastic but shallow fashion and cast with bland, no-name actors. Often ridiculously over-the-top, the Old Testament passes with much misery, blood and thunder. Improves once Jesus Christ makes an appearance, but this is no match for Jesus of Nazareth (1977).
