SOMETIMES STOPPING IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THE JOURNEY…
Alex Hughes (Alan Rickman) picks up a hitcher who is subsequently killed when the car is hit by a truck; Alex goes to see the young womanās mother (Sigourney Weaver) who’s autistic. A drama that promises a lot, but only partially delivers. It has good performances (the two stars are an odd couple, but fun to watch), wintry Canadian locations, and Alex’s detour on his road to redemption is frequently engaging. But there is something too calculated about the meeting between these characters; the filmmakers hope we get a cry and a laugh out of it, but we certainly don’t get anything unpredictable.
