LETTING GO OF YOUR PAST IS HARD… ESPECIALLY WHEN IT’S DATING YOUR MOM.
Best-selling writer John Farley (Seann William Scott) is horrified to learn that his mother (Susan Sarandon) is now dating the man who turned his childhood into a nightmare – gym teacher Jasper Woodcock (Billy Bob Thornton). From the director who made Lars and the Real Girl (2007) – not that you can tell, the film doesn’t have a real original touch, but the massive reshoots could have something to do with that. Could have been a contender but there’s only a handful of amusing scenes and the story leads nowhere. Thornton is good though as the passionately sadistic Woodcock.
2007-U.S. 88 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Craig Gillespie. Cast: Billy Bob Thornton (Jasper Woodcock), Seann William Scott (John Farley), Susan Sarandon (Beverly Farley), Amy Poehler, Melissa Sagemiller, Ethan Suplee.
