ONE MAN’S MIND IS ANOTHER MAN’S MYSTERY.
Psychologist Theo Caulder (Cuba Gooding, Jr.) takes on brilliant primatologist Ethan Powell (Anthony Hopkins) who’s been imprisoned for killing two people in the African jungles. A film for Hopkins aficionados who want to see the actor combine his Hannibal Lecter with Sean Connery’s character in The Rock (1996); his performance becomes a bit too overheated for my taste. The film’s interesting aspects are defeated by clichĂ©d themes about the supreme goodness of nature and the need for prison reform, with John Ashton turning into a big house version of Nurse Ratched.Â
1999-U.S. 124 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Jon Turteltaub. Cast: Anthony Hopkins (Ethan Powell), Cuba Gooding, Jr. (Theo Caulder), Donald Sutherland (Ben Hill), Maura Tierney, George Dzundza, John Ashton.
Trivia:Â Sean Connery was allegedly considered for the part of Ethan.
