Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby

NASCAR champ Ricky Bobby (Will Ferrell) has a successful partnership with a colleague (John C. Reilly), but their friendship and NASCAR supremacy are challenged by a newly arrived French driver (Sacha Baron Cohen). The director and the star of Anchorman (2004) thrilled their fans with a film much like it. As expected, jokes mostly revolve around the macho ideals of the NASCAR world and people who are, simply put, stupid. Good to see Ferrell and Reilly together, but the film would have been better with tighter direction. Likable, but far too few real laughs.

2006-U.S. 108 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed byĀ Adam McKay. Screenplay: Will Ferrell, Adam McKay. Cast: Will Ferrell (Ricky Bobby), John C. Reilly (Cal Naughton, Jr.), Sacha Baron Cohen (Jean Girard), Gary Cole, Michael Clarke Duncan, Leslie Bibb… Amy Adams, Andy Richter, Pat Hingle. Cameos: Elvis Costello, Mos Def.

Trivia: Alternative version runs 121 min. Steve Carell was allegedly considered for a part.
