Spaceballs

MAY THE SCHWARTZ BE WITH YOU.

spaceballsMercenary Lone Starr (Bill Pullman) tries to stop an evil empire from stealing the air supply from a lush planet. This spoof of space movies, the Star WarsĀ franchise in particular,Ā really felt like it came a decade too late. Best part of it is the enthusiasm on display. Rick Moranis is way over the top, but the nerdy Darth Vader double (with a huge helmet) is undoubtedly his funniest part ever. Director Mel Brooks himself is of course the right man to play a very Jewish Yoda. Some of the jokes will inevitably make you laugh, but the silliness is overbearing.

1987-U.S. 96 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed byĀ Mel Brooks. Screenplay: Mel Brooks, Thomas Meehan, Ronny Graham. Cast: Mel Brooks (Yogurt/Scroob), John Candy (Barf), Rick Moranis (Dark Helmet), Bill Pullman (Lone Starr), Daphne Zuniga, Dick Van Pattenā€¦ John Hurt. Voices of Joan Rivers, Dom DeLuise.

Trivia: Co-produced by Brooks.
