TOGETHER THEY FOUND PEACE ON THE ROAD TO JUSTICE.
After three decades of darkness, what amounts to the full story of how Nelson Mandela broke a racist system could finally be told. Newsreel footage from the fight against the white leaders lends a feeling of authenticity in this film to the dramatized story of how Mandela and the new president, de Klerk, changed their country. Also dissected here is the Mandela marriage that dissolved shortly after his release from prison. Nothing truly outstanding in the script, but as a traditional TV movie it is well made and Sidney Poitier grows into the part of the future South African president; he is entirely believable. Michael Caine plays de Klerk in an effectively authoritarian way.
