After a nuclear accident that left a part of Japan devastated, an autocratic governor (Bill Moseley) forces a criminal (Nicolas Cage) to go look for his missing ”granddaughter” in the desolate Ghostland. The director’s English-language debut is an opportunity for the star to nurse his ”Cage Rage”; the campy performance becomes a natural part of a character who walks around with explosives strapped to his family jewels. You’re never bored, but the story and concept make it look like a poor man’s Mad Max at times.
