Former UFC fighter Jackie Justice (Halle Berry) is now a housecleaner with a drinking problem; when her young son (Danny Boyd, Jr.) suddenly comes into her life, she tries to mount a comeback in the cage. Making comparisons with Rocky (1976) whenever thereā€™s a new movie about a down-and-out boxer or fighter may seem lazy, but thereā€™s no avoiding it in Berryā€™s directing debut, especially in that final bout that follows the formula to a T. Overlong and grim, the film still has effective moments and a strong lead performance.

2021-U.S. 129 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed byĀ Halle Berry. Song: ā€Automatic Womanā€ (performed by H.E.R.). Cast: Halle Berry (Jackie Justice), Sheila Atim (Bobbi Buddhakan Berroa), Adan Canto (Desi), Danny Boyd, Jr., Shamier Anderson, Adriane Lenox.

Trivia: Co-produced by Berry. At one point, Nick Cassavetes was reportedly considered for directing duties, with Blake Lively in the lead. Several real-life MMA fighters make appearances in the film.Ā
