Assassin’s Creed

Cal Lynch (Michael Fassbender) is saved from his execution only to be used by a company that wants access to his genetic memories, taking him back to his ancestor’s experiences in 1492… Another woeful screen adaptation of a video game. Its cinematic potential is wasted; neither the journeys back in time nor the film’s MacGuffin trigger one’s imagination. The story is just as dull as Fassbender’s performance; the film’s look is more generic than visually arresting.

2016-U.S.-France. 115 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Justin Kurzel. Cast: Michael Fassbender (Callum ”Cal” Lynch/Aguilar de Nerha), Marion Cotillard (Sofia Rikkin), Jeremy Irons (Alan Rikkin), Brendan Gleeson, Charlotte Rampling, Michael K. Williams… Matias Varela.

Trivia: Co-produced by Fassbender.
