EVERYTHING’S BETTER WITH MATURITY.
18 years after Jesse and Celine (Ethan Hawke, Julie Delpy) met for one night in Vienna in Before Sunrise (1995), we meet them again and things have changed. Now they’re a couple, with twin girls, on holiday in Greece. They are middle-aged and the conversations obviously look different, arguments revolving around what they’ve gone through and learned about each other over the years. Richard Linklater opened up the concept a bit, inviting other characters and changing the scenery. The affection between Hawke and Delpy is clear; they’ve made this couple part of their lives.
2013-U.S. 108 min. Color. Directed by Richard Linklater. Screenplay: Richard Linklater, Ethan Hawke, Julie Delpy. Cast: Ethan Hawke (Jesse), Julie Delpy (Celine), Seamus Davey-Fitzpatrick (Hank), Jennifer Prior, Charlotte Prior, Xenia Kalogeropoulou.
