WITNESS THE MANHUNT THAT CHANGED THE COURSE OF HUMAN HISTORY.
Shortly after the crucifixion of a Jewish preacher, Roman prefect Pontius Pilate (Peter Firth) orders a tribune (Joseph Fiennes) to find his missing body. Dramas of this kind usually focus on a chosen biblical story, but this movie prefers to create a portrait of a Roman soldier who becomes intrigued with the mystery of the preacher Yeshua who just might have come back from the dead. Starts out like a detective story, but it doesn’t lead anywhere interesting; after a while the film settles into a familiar narrative. Nothing wrong with Fiennes, but he’s stuck with a wooden character.
