The Jane Austen Book Club

Screenwriter Robin Swicord has adapted many novels in the past and this project seemed fitting for her feature film directing debut, a story depicting six people who form a book club devoted to Jane Austenā€™s novels. We follow them over the course of six months and fans of the author will have fun noting how the characters reflect some of Austenā€™s famous literary figures. But even if you donā€™t know your Austen thereā€™s pleasure to derive from this uncomplicated but enjoyable film that has romance, laughs and an attractive cast. The characters, who are a motley bunch, and their problems are engaging enough.

2007-U.S. 106 min. Color. Written and directed byĀ Robin Swicord. Novel: Karen Joy Fowler. Cast: Maria Bello (Jocelyn), Emily Blunt (Prudie), Kathy Baker (Bernadette), Amy Brenneman, Maggie Grace, Jimmy Smitsā€¦ Hugh Dancy, Lynn Redgrave, Nancy Travis.
