Life on the Road

David Brent (Ricky Gervais) works as a salesman for a firm, but dreams of a career as a rock star; taking a month of unpaid leave, he pays a band to join him for a tour. A mockumentary done in the same style as The Office (2001-2002), where David Brent first appeared. Meeting him again all these years later means an endless parade of sad but undeniably amusing embarrassments and low points for him. Not as memorable as the TV show, but still consistently funny and enjoyable in a sick, tortured way thanks to Gervais. Not much of a story, but Brent finally gets just a little bit of encouragement in the end.

2016-Britain. 96 min. Color. Written and directed byĀ Ricky Gervais. Cast: Ricky Gervais (David Brent), Ben Bailey Smith (Dom Johnson), Andy Burrows (Drummer), Tom Basden, Jo Hartley, Mandeep Dhillon.

Trivia: Alternative title: David Brent: Life on the Road. Co-produced by Gervais. Chris Martin gave Gervais a hand on the soundtrack.
