HERE COME THE GRANDPARENTS. THERE GO THE RULES.
Artie and Diane Decker (Billy Crystal, Bette Midler) agree to babysit their three grandchildren in Atlanta; since their parenting philosophy differs a lot from their daughter’s (Marisa Tomei), they rarely see the kids. A surprisingly big hit at the box office, which is nice for two older stars who have been well cast. They’re fun to watch, even though their constant flow of sitcom lines make them seem more like caricatures than real people. On the whole, this is pretty weak stuff, with a formula whose sentimentality near the end feels more generic than honest.
2012-U.S. 105 min. Color. Directed by Andy Fickman. Cast: Billy Crystal (Artie Decker), Bette Midler (Diane Decker), Marisa Tomei (Alice Simmons), Tom Everett Scott, Bailee Madison, Joshua Rush.
