The Monster Squad

monstersquadThe members of ā€œThe Monster Squadā€, a bunch of kids idolizing classic movie monsters, find themselves battling the real deal when Count Dracula and his allies arrive in the United Statesā€¦ It starts with a lot of noise, and pretty much continues that way, this horror movie for kids that has become a cult item over the years. The director borrows heavily from Spielberg and The Goonies (1985). The kids and the visual effects are fun to watch, and thereā€™s a degree of monster nostalgia for older viewersā€¦ but itā€™s still too repetitive and mediocre.

1987-U.S. 81 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed byĀ Fred Dekker. Screenplay: Shane Black, Fred Dekker. Visual Effects: Richard Edlund. Cast: Andre Gower (Sean Crenshaw), Robby Kiger (Patrick), Stephen Macht (Del Crenshaw), Duncan Regehr, Tom Noonan, Brent Chalem.

Trivia: Co-executive produced by Rob Cohen and Peter Hyams. Liam Neeson was allegedly considered for a role.
