Keeping Mum

keepingmumWhen a new housekeeper (Maggie Smith) arrives in an English hamlet to work for the vicar (Rowan Atkinson) and his family, strange but not entirely negative things begin to happen. A very pleasant and cozy comedy with traditionally English streaks of darkness. The atmosphere is just right, with a bone-dry vicar, old ladies and a bit of sex and a few murders on the side. Atkinson, Kristin Scott Thomas and Smith are all very game, the latter as a woman with peculiar morals. The film is funny and, frankly, bonkers, but it works in spite of a story that is both slim and tends to go too far near the end.

2005-Britain. 103 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed byĀ Niall Johnson. Cast: Rowan Atkinson (Walter Goodfellow), Kristin Scott Thomas (Gloria Goodfellow), Maggie Smith (Grace Hawkins), Patrick Swayze, Tamsin Egerton, Toby Parkesā€¦ Liz Smith.
