NO WARNING. NO ESCAPE.
In AD 79, Celtic gladiator Milo (Kit Harington) realizes that a group of Romans, led by a Senator (Kiefer Sutherland), who plan on investing in Pompeii, were responsible for the murder of his family in Britannia when he was a kid. Perhaps Paul W.S. Anderson was aiming for a new Titanic (1997), with a tragic romance building in the face of looming disaster, but the emotions involved here are stunted by poor writing and uncharismatic performances. Sutherland is hilariously hammy as the villain. When Vesuvius does erupt (in 3D), it’s with glorious abandon.
