A LIVING NIGHTMARE OF BLACK MAGICā¦ AND UNSPEAKABLE EVIL!
In 17th-century England, a farmer (Barry Andrews) finds a strange human skull in his field; it doesn’t take long for the whole village to be affected by a diabolical menace. A predecessor to The Wicker Man (1973) with a cult following ā both horror movies present a mix of religion, sex and countryside isolation. There’s some sensationalist value to the naked tits and bloody effects, but the creepy atmosphere is the film’s strongest asset. Still, the story is a bit of a drag and the performances uneven.
