FOUR FRIENDS LOOKING FOR A LITTLE HARMONY.Ā
When the famous soprano Jean Horton (Maggie Smith) arrives at Beecham House, a home for retired musicians, old feelings are stirred up. Dustin Hoffman’s directing debut is a pleasant adaptation of a stage play that fuses drama and comedy in a very British manner. The story is simple ā focus lies on the minor problems surrounding a concert at Beecham House (which is based on an actual retirement home), and the relationship between Smith and Tom Courtenay that turned bitter many years ago. Naturally, it also addresses the realities of aging and a never-ending love for music. Slight, but elevated by a fine cast.
