DARK SECRETS WILL COME TO LIGHT.
High-school kid Ethan Wate (Alden Ehrenreich), who can’t wait to get out of his narrow-minded South Carolina hometown, is immediately smitten by a newcomer (Alice Englert) with special powers. Another attempt to attract the Twilight crowd, this time with so-called “casters” and magic. We have young lovers, a family of outcasts and entertaining performances by Emma Thompson and Jeremy Irons as adversaries… but it still doesn’t click because the story feels drawn out and overly familiar. Also, the leads are bland and look too old for their parts.
