Puss in Boots is reunited with an estranged childhood friend, Humpty Dumpty; together with the fierce but seductive Kitty Softpaws, the couple tries to find magic beans that will take them to a giant’s castle. Shrek the Third (2007) director Chris Miller helmed this 3D spin-off to the popular franchise, which also relies on jokes about and references to fairy tales and modern pop culture. Very slight, but a funny, nicely animated adventure that takes us out on the prairie and high up in the sky. Antonio Banderas is perfectly matched by Salma Hayek, and the talking egg has his moments as well.
