YOU CAN ONLY DEFEAT IT WHEN YOU BELIEVE.
Michael Kovak (Colin O’Donoghue), who’s thinking about leaving seminary school due to a lack of faith, is sent to Rome to attend a class on exorcism where he’s introduced to Father Lucas Trevant (Anthony Hopkins), a seasoned veteran in the battle against demons. The Exorcist (1973) seems to have more or less ruined this genre; nothing stands up to it. This film has the novelty of subjecting the exorcist to his own medicine, but as a horror movie it doesn’t have enough thrills and as a drama it rarely gives us much food for thought. Still, benefits from Hopkins’s performance and the cinematography.
