Just when her life is falling apart, best friend Lillian (Maya Rudolph) asks Annie (Kristen Wiig) to be her maid of honorā€¦ and she immediately becomes very competitive. Another overlong Judd Apatow production that suffers from a meandering screenplay that doesn’t know how to take its characters in fresh directions. Some critics made too much of the female-centric theme; whenever the filmmakers try to turn serious, they’re in over their heads. Still, the movie’s better at generating easy laughs throughout the story, with a lot of help from its cast, particularly Melissa McCarthy and Jon Hamm (as a moronic sex buddy).

2011-U.S. 125 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed byĀ Paul Feig. Screenplay: Kristen Wiig, Annie Mumolo. Cast: Kristen Wiig (Annie Walker), Maya Rudolph (Lillian Donovan), Rose Byrne (Helen Harris III), Wendi McLendon-Covey, Ellie Kemper, Melissa McCarthyā€¦ Jill Clayburgh. Cameo: Jon Hamm.

Trivia:Ā Co-produced by Judd Apatow. Clayburgh’s final film.

Quote: “I’m glad he’s single because I’m going to climb that like a tree.” (McCarthy)
