LIFE HAS A MIND OF ITS OWN.
Director Joe Wright followed up his amazing Atonement (2007) with a true story about a Los Angeles Times columnist, Steve Lopez (Robert Downey, Jr.), who became interested in the plight of the city’s homeless thanks to a chance encounter with one of them, a gifted musician (Jamie Foxx) who ended up on the street because of mental illness. Not as compelling as one could hope for, but still well made. Wright makes an effective point out of politicians promising money to the community in one moment and the next sending in cops to “clean” it up. The two leads are very good.
