Alice in Wonderland

19-year-old Alice Kingsleigh (Mia Wasikowska) is being set up to marry a dull English nobleman, but is rescued by falling into a hole in the ground that takes her to a bizarre place called Underland.Ā In Tim Burtonā€™s hands, Lewis Carrollā€™s books are fused into one story and the movie offers all his expected ingredients ā€“ a twisted sense of humor, expressionist settings and Johnny Depp. Wasikowska is a terrific Alice and the cast has amusing performances, but Underland is so computer-animated it looks plastic and the story becomes very formulaic.
