ON THE ROAD TO A PERFECT LIFE, SAM & ALEX TOOK A LITTLE DETOUR.Ā
Young, uptight psychiatrist Sam (Christian Bale) and his fiancee (Kate Beckinsale) are moving to Los Angeles; they go to live with his mother, a free-spirited record producer (Frances McDormand). Think there’s gonna be a clash? You bet. The High Art (1998) director returns to the subject of what happens to people who work up the courage to try new things in life. These characters will feel liberated (as well as challenged)… but viewers will feel that they’ve been down this road before. Still, reasonably well made and the cast is worth a look, especially McDormand as the somewhat too liberal mother.
