National Lampoon’s Animal House

animalhouseThe year is 1962 and the Delta frat house at Faber College is known as the raunchiest on campus; now the dean (John Vernon) wants it closed.Ā Perhaps the least enjoyable film to be considered an important comedy classic by a lot of people. The first movie based on material from National Lampoon is an occasionally fun and cheeky story about likable troublemakers that inspired many 1980s comediesā€¦ but its memorable moments are scarce and the ending is more loud than amusing. John Belushi is good though as a human trash can.

1978-U.S. 109 min. Color.Ā Directed byĀ John Landis.Ā Screenplay:Ā Harold Ramis, Douglas Kenney, Chris Miller.Ā Cast:Ā John Belushi (John ā€œBlutoā€ Blutarsky), Tim Matheson (Eric Stratton), John Vernon (Vernon Wormer), Verna Bloom, Tom Hulce, Cesare Danovaā€¦ Peter Riegert, Donald Sutherland, Karen Allen, Kevin Bacon.

Trivia:Ā Co-produced by Ivan Reitman. Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Chevy Chase were allegedly considered for parts in the film. This was Baconā€™s film debut. Followed by a TV series,Ā Delta HouseĀ (1979).

Quote:Ā ā€œPut a sock in it, boy, or else youā€™ll be outta here like shit through a goose.ā€ (Vernon to Matheson)
