The Unborn

Casey Beldon (Odette Yustman) is plagued by visions of a frightening boy and receives the message “Jumby wants to be born now”; it turns out that she had a twin brother who died in utero. Sooner or later every myth ends up on screen and this film takes on the phenomenon of dybbuks, possessing spirits according to Jewish folklore. A few well-staged effects deliver, but the teens are uninvolving, Gary Oldman and Jane Alexander wasted and the story (as well as the director’s approach) unsubtle and familiar.

2009-U.S. 88 min. Color. Widescreen. Written and directed byĀ David S. Goyer. Cast: Odette Yustman (Casey Beldon), Gary Oldman (Rabbi Sendak), Cam Gigandet (Mark), Meagan Good, Idris Elba, Jane Alexander… James Remar, Carla Gugino.

Trivia: Co-produced by Michael Bay.
