EVERYONE LOVES A GOOD SCANDAL.
Carter Page III (Woody Harrelson) enjoys a comfortable life as an escort to women who are part of the Washington elite, but a murder is about to change that. There didn’t seem to be much of a point in director Paul Schrader making a movie that shares so many traits with American Gigolo (1980), a story that had so little to offer apart from its attractive, glitzy façade. Early on, Schrader makes us understand what kind of cynical place Washington is; the murder mystery adds little to it. Harrelson is good though as the sophisticated Southerner who lives in the shadow of his father.
