The Number 23

Walter Sparrow (Jim Carrey), a professional dog catcher, starts reading a book and recognizes himself in the story; he subsequently becomes obsessed with the number 23. The idea that everything in the world is connected to the number 23 is an old theory that is a stretch to believe in ā€“ so is this thriller. It has an exciting idea but its direction is slow and uninvolving; by the time you finally begin to get a little interested it’s time for the end credits. The filmmakers probably thought Carrey’s frenzied acting style would fit the character; he’s OK but hardly remarkable.

2007-U.S. 97 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed byĀ Joel Schumacher. Cast: Jim Carrey (Walter Sparrow), Virginia Madsen (Agatha Sparrow), Logan Lerman (Robin Sparrow), Danny Huston, Rhona Mitra, Michelle Arthur.

Trivia: Elisabeth Shue was allegedly first cast as Agatha.
