The Mist

When a small town in Maine is enshrouded in a mysterious mist, a group of people are trapped in a grocery store soon to be attacked by deadly creatures. Frank Darabont has a history of making good Stephen King adaptations; this one is problematic, but has interesting ingredients. Heā€™s chosen a great, diverse cast with Marcia Gay Harden the standout as a fanatic who sees the mist as an excuse to start a cult in the store. The tagline reveals what the director wants to say; the ending is shocking and original but other parts are too ordinary and reminiscent of better horror stories.

2007-U.S. 127 min. Color. Written and directed byĀ Frank Darabont. Novella: Stephen King. Cast: Thomas Jane (David Drayton), Marcia Gay Harden (Mrs. Carmody), Laurie Holden (Amanda Dunfrey), AndrĆ© Braugher, Toby Jones, William Sadler.

Trivia: Alternative title: Stephen King’s The Mist. Also available in a black-and-white version. The story was also made into a TV series, The Mist (2017).
