Martian Child

Successful sci-fi writer David Gordon (John Cusack) decides to adopt a boy (Bobby Coleman) who’s convinced that he’s an alien from Mars; it becomes quite a challenge. A film that is the very definition of a two-star movie. Intentions are good, the script has a few serious themes and the actors do what they’re supposed to do (Cusack is impossible to dislike). But nothing stands out, the emotional parts remain fairly uninvolving and the movie is too silly whenever it tries to make us think that there could be something extra-terrestrial about the boy after all.

2007-U.S. 106 min. Color. Directed byĀ Menno Meyjes. Novella: David Gerrold. Cast: John Cusack (David Gordon), Bobby Coleman (Dennis), Amanda Peet (Harlee), Joan Cusack, Oliver Platt, Anjelica Huston… Sophie Okonedo, Howard Hesseman.
