TWO’S COMPANY. DUPREE’S A CROWD.
Molly and Carl (Kate Hudson, Matt Dillon) get married, but when he loses his job best man Randolph Dupree (Owen Wilson) moves in with them… and poses a risk to their marriage. A comedy with a concept similar to many others, but this is a case where you don’t grow tired of the character that so annoys the leads; Wilson’s charming innocence carries the day. The movie goes on too long (without big laughs), but it is nevertheless pleasant and Dupree’s behavior doesn’t become too extreme. Nice performances by Hudson and Dillon, but Michael Douglas’s character requires someone like Alec Baldwin.
