CAN’T STOP THE SIGNAL.
When the TV show Firefly was canceled in 2002 after only 14 episodes, it was decided that the loyal fans deserved closure, and this film came to be. In his directing debut, Joss Whedon, the show’s creator, focuses on a final showdown between the crew of the spaceship Serenity, a dangerous protégé (played by Summer Glau) and the evil Alliance. Perhaps the studio was aiming for a new Star Trek-type franchise? The effects are good enough, but the story is long and uneven, and the cast somewhat anemic.
