THERE’S MORE TO FEAR THAN YOU CAN SEE.
When scientist Sebastian Caine (Kevin Bacon) and his team, who all work for the Pentagon, come up with a way to turn invisible, Caine tries it on himself with terrifying consequences. Director Paul Verhoeven delivers a bloody take on The Invisible Man (1933), but it’s a little disappointing to see a person acquire an ability with such tremendous potential and then go on to… just intimidate his co-workers and stalk women. Bacon is good as the psychotic scientist, and the visual effects are wondrous… but the story turns into little more than just another copy ofĀ Alien (1979).
2000-U.S. 114 min. Color. Directed byĀ Paul Verhoeven. Music: Jerry Goldsmith. Cast: Kevin Bacon (Sebastian Caine), Elisabeth Shue (Linda McKay), Josh Brolin (Matthew Kensington), William Devane, Greg Grunberg, Mary Jo Randle.
Trivia: Followed by a direct-to-DVD sequel, Hollow Man II (2006).
