DARE TO BE DIFFERENT.
Midwesterner Paul Tannek (Jason Biggs) enrolls in New York University where he’s taunted by his fellow students, but falls in love with Dora Diamond (Mena Suvari) who’s having an affair with a teacher (Greg Kinnear). Another teen comedy from Amy Heckerling, but not as sharp as her 1995 comeback feature, Clueless. The leads, reunited after American Pie (1999), are a little bland and constantly surrounded by unlikable characters, including that teacher… although Kinnear is fun to watch. Pretty engaging song score, but the story (which focuses largely on the romance) needs more juice.
