CAN YOU CHANGE YOUR WHOLE LIFE IN A DAY?
Drug dealer Montgomery Brogan (Edward Norton) spends his last day in freedom before going to jail saying goodbye to his girlfriend, father and best friends. This Spike Lee joint is not unlike his previous Summer of Sam (1999) in the way that it tries to portray New York City in a time of crisis; the tragedy of 9/11 sets the mood of this depressing but often engrossing drama. The music and the actors, all of them, are terrific and the director conveys the feeling of loneliness in these peopleās lives in a very effective way. But we learn precious little about the characters and we’re left wondering about them.Ā
