Anne Bowles (Tisa Farrow) teams up with a reporter (Ian McCulloch) to learn why a zombie aboard a yacht ended up adrift in the New York Harbor. The movie that made cult director Lucio Fulci a name worldwide is obviously inspired by George A. Romero’s zombie movies, but also tries to reconnect with the roots of the legend. The acting is hopeless, story is so-so and the quality of the effects vary (the zombies just look like they’re covered in mud), but a few very gory scenes made it famous as a video nasty, including an amusing fight with a shark.

1979-Italy. 91 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed byĀ Lucio Fulci. Cast: Tisa Farrow (Anne Bowles), Ian McCulloch (Peter West), Richard Johnson (David Menard), Al Cliver, Auretta Gay.

Trivia: Original title: Zombi 2 (but it’s not a sequel to anything). Alternative title: Zombie Flesh Eaters. Followed by Zombi 3 (1988).
