beanAs ā€œWhistlerā€™s Motherā€ is headed for California, the National Gallery of Art in London sends Mr. Bean (Rowan Atkinson) as its expert to supervise the event.Ā This movie was meant to make a star out of Bean to American audiences, and it does feel Americanized compared to the 1990-1995 TV series that made the character famous. Thereā€™s a certain sentimentality that threatens to ruin the whole thing, but it is nevertheless an entertaining comedy with recycled but enjoyable skits that will be a pleasant surprise for those who never saw them on the TV show. Peter MacNicol gives an amusing supporting performance.

1997-Britain. 90 min. Color. Directed byĀ Mel Smith. Screenplay: Richard Curtis, Robin Driscoll. Cast: Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean), Peter MacNicol (David Langley), Pamela Reed (Alison Langley), Harris Yulin, Burt Reynolds, John Mills.

Trivia:Ā Followed byĀ Mr. Beanā€™s HolidayĀ (2007).
