San Francisco ad man Nelson Moss (Keanu Reeves) reluctantly shares an apartment with the very free-spirited Sara Deever (Charlize Theron) who picks a new male companion every month. The two stars reunited after The Devil’s Advocate (1997) for this remake of the 1968 film. Theron may convince Reeves that sometimes it’s better to ditch the cell and spend a day at the beach, but the movie is constantly in danger of veering into silliness and lacks the kind of romantic energy that might have given it a boost. Jason Isaacs is worth a look as a gay neighbor.
