AN EPIC STORY OF THREE BROTHERS. BOUND BY BLOOD. DIVIDED BY FATE. DRIVEN BY DESTINY.
Two Chicano half-brothers and their white cousin take different paths in life, as Paco (Benjamin Bratt) becomes a narc, Cruz (Jesse Borrego) an artist and Miklos (Damian Chapa) a gangster. An ambitious film, co-written by the poet Jimmy Santiago Baca, that surprisingly enough holds one’s interest for three hours in spite of clichés and predictability. The most exciting parts take place in prison: the positive aspects of the film are a testament to the filmmaking and storytelling skills of Taylor Hackford and his collaborators. Chapa may have watched too many James Cagney flicks, but it’s nice to see passionate acting.
