THE SECRET LIES WITHIN.
On a dark and stormy night, ten people are stranded and then subjected to a killer at a scary motel in Nevada. A brutal chiller that evolves into a cross between The Cell (2000) and Agatha Christieās āTen Little Indiansā; definitely has its thrills, even if the excessively gory details of every murder risk making the movie too silly. The actors, particularly John Cusack, make you care for their characters ā but that effort is almost ruined once the twist becomes obvious. That part of the filmĀ comes across as both annoying and clever, which is some kind of feat.
2003-U.S. 90 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed byĀ James Mangold. Cast: John Cusack (Ed), Ray Liotta (Rhodes), Amanda Peet (Paris), John Hawkes, Rebecca De Mornay, Alfred Molina.
