Dick

HE WAS TRICKY. THEY WERE BETTER.

Teen girls Betsy Jobs (Kirsten Dunst) and Arlene Lorenzo (Michelle Williams) witness the Watergate scandal unfold when they are hired by President Richard Nixon (Dan Hedaya) to walk his dog. Maybe the writers had sampled some of the cannabis-laced cookies that are featured in the film; having Nixon as a major character in a teen film is a nutty idea. However, it turns into quite an enjoyable comedy. The girls are silly and likeable and Hedaya is a treat as Tricky Dick. The period details are fun to watch and Watergate buffs will get a kick out of how the movie turns into a spoof of All the Presidentā€™s Men (1976).

1999-U.S. 95 min. Color. Directed byĀ Andrew Fleming. Screenplay: Andrew Fleming, Sheryl Longin. Cast: Kirsten Dunst (Betsy Jobs), Michelle Williams (Arlene Lorenzo), Dan Hedaya (Richard Nixon), Dave Foley, Saul Rubinek, Harry Shearer… Will Ferrell, Teri Garr, Ryan Reynolds.

Quote: “I’ve got a way with young people. They trust me.” (Hedaya as Nixon)
