The winners of the AR Emerging awards will be presented with a bespoke trophy made by manufacturer of recycled materials Alusid
The winners of the AR Emerging awards 2023 will be announced on Thursday 9 November at Hoxton Arches in London. The winning and highly commended practices, as well as the Peter Davey Prize winner, will receive a trophy produced by our trophy partner Alusid, a manufacturer transforming by-products from the ceramic, glass and foundation industries into new materials.

The trophies were designed and crafted by the Alusid team and are made from 98 per cent recycled material. The objects are made of a mix of clay and recycled glass and porcelain, which were hand-pressed in plywood moulds.

The moulds were made of thick coated plywood which allowed the material to slide off after pressing and made the demoulding process a painless one.

The final trophies are the result of a rigorous testing process, from the recipe for the material mix, to the different finishes and glazes. All 15 shortlisted practices will be given a special token created from some of these experiments.

The AR Emerging trophies have been used as an opportunity to experiment with different materials: in 2019, the trophies were made out of terrazzo, the 2020 trophies were crafted out of rammed earth, and cork was used in 2022.
